They Can't All Be Great Days

But they can be good days.  Yesterday was a mixed bag in the NICU.  Sometime in the middle of the afternoon, Shiloh quit tolerating his feedings so they have quit feeding him for now.  He has also had a bit of trouble acclimating to the new ventilator and they had to up his settings a bit.  They say now everything is a waiting game and this is up to how quickly his lungs develop.  On the brighter side of things, his bilirubin level is finally down to the level where he no longer needs the lights.  This was great because he no longer has to wear the mask, but it was also pure torture because you are still in the same situation.  There is no more frustrating or heartbreaking thing in this world than to watch your child try to cry but not be able to because he is on the ventilator.  All he can do is turn red and get violent, and you are helpless to calm him in any way.  Part of me wishes the mask would have stayed on until the vent came off.  Overall, it was a good day because Carrie was finally able to see his eyes, but it may have been our hardest and most frustrating day thus far.

Today, our prayer requests are very specific:

  1. Pray his advances remain advances
  2. Pray his lungs will get stronger and healthier
  3. Pray his inspiratory level would drop to 18 or below (they need it 14 or below, but this is a good first step)
  4. Pray his oxygen percent being given would drop below 32% (They need it below 12%, but again this is just progress we are looking for)
  5. Pray with those drops that his blood gas level would get to 7.30 or above ( That is the level they want it at, but his last 3 levels were 7.27, 7.29, 7.29.  This was the reason for the up in the respiratory rate)
  6. Pray that our finances would hold up to all of the travel and meals
  7. Pray they will be able to start feedings soon
Thank you all for your prayers and support.
